Origami Duit

Prologue
Woe upon the winter’s ravens,
Silver wings in rivers of tears,
High and mighty above the cravens,
To the eternal summit ofthe Heavens.
"So, what do you think?"

The girl chuckles. "That is astrange opening to a love story."

“Well, I decided to change it. Romantic stories are just not my thing—”

Oh really? Orked’s lips fold themselves into a sly smile.

“—so another way to attract youngsters is a fantasy novel! It is still going to have the same idea. I am not changing that. But Ked, this is not that bad. I’ve been working on it for the past few days—“

Or pastfew classes. Orked grabs the cloth by their bed and heads back to her dressing table. She notices, on her way back, the piece of paper in Aufa’s hand.  It is rather old with hints of carbon stains and what looked like tear stains on its sides. There are subtle blue lines in shapes of numbers but they are clear enough for a person as sharp as Orked. She knows he was not paying attention during classes.

“I know how much effort you put inthis project of yours.”  Her smile in the mirror’s reflection teases him. Orked carefully pins her hijab, glancing back at her husband and thinking of his troubles. The hijab was Aufa’s wedding gif tfor her and it is the first time she is wearing it. Golden chrysanthemum and little butterfly embroidery blended well with the cream colour of the silk. Definitely her is what he thought whenhe saw the scarf.

“I am hardly half the writer you are, Aufa. Don’t burden yourself too much. Take it slowly okay? We are in thistogether, right?”

Aufa sighs as he brings himself to the edge of the bed, admiring his wife. Oh how difficult it is for him to admit she is right. She’s right, Aufa. Your currentpriority is graduating. You don’t want to repeat your previous mistake, do you?No. I don’t want to. Yeah. I know what to do. It’s okay to take it slowly, right? Allah doesn’t look at the results. It is my effort that shines in Hiseyes. There he goes again, smiling to himself. Aufa is a quiet man who spends too much of his time thinking. It became a habit to the point that hestarted to have conversations with himself. He once thought he should give a name to his inner self but it remains nameless character.

“Ah, I know. It’s just... I need tostart something.  I had this story in myhead for months. Or Allah knows, years. It is difficult for me to keep it off my mind.”

Orked did one last check on herselfbefore she walks to her husband. Aufa was looking at his writings when Orked’s hand reaches out in front of his solemn face.

“But then again, I’m definitely number one right?”

Aufa replies her smile with his as she pulls him up. He pushed his weight at the same time to help Orked. He gives the room a quick glance as he follows her out the door. A slight slap on each of his front and back pockets. Phone, check. Wallet, check. Car keys, check. And they are all set to Zahed’s engagement ceremony.

Aufa and Orked are newly-weds,just two weeks into their marriage. The heat and excitement of that day still lingers afresh in their minds. Aufa waited years for that moment. He is a small person with big dreams. But dreams do not come true by themselves. Dreams need support and encouragement. He saw them in Orked. All he needed was a push and Orked was the only person capable of such a task. Both tied their hearts under one intention. One described by Aufa as our pure dream.I want you to accompany me on a journey. A journey of faith. A journey of perseverance. A journey of the truth. At the end of this journey is a place; green as far as the eye can see with crystal clear sky. Worthy of all the sorrows on this earth. So, what do you think? I’ll be your Muhammad. You’ll be my Khadijah.
